The Save button is not a download
Saved is a folder inside Instagram’s app, on Instagram’s servers, under Instagram’s rules. The difference between bookmarking a post and owning the file — and when each one is right.

A bookmark points; a download possesses
When you tap Save, Instagram remembers a pointer to the post. Delete the post, private the account, lose your login or your signal, and the pointer points at nothing. A downloaded MP4 is a file on your device: it survives all four, because it was never a pointer.
When bookmarking is enough
For scrolls you will glance at once — a meme, a headline, a look — Save is perfect and instant. The bookmark fails exactly when the content becomes a reference: the recipe you cook weekly, the workout you follow daily, the tutorial you need mid-project with dirty hands and no signal.
